July 13

A bunch of us went out last night to one of the local watering holes to hang out and play pool. It was so much fun and pretty hilarious since we sat around and talked about work and exchanged crazy stories and decided that anything in the humanities is not worth going into right now because none of us can find jobs. It was all very discouraging to the people who were still in college. One another note though I have decided that I am not an awesome pool player, but I could be and this is the reason, I know HOW to play pool in THEORY, but actual execution is a different story. Thanks to hours of watching pool during my high school and college years I learn the basic rules and theory of the game. The problem is I try to take all of these ridiculous shots that I don’t have the talent for but I know they would work. So I end up taking the hardest shot on the table with dismal consequences. It’s sort of hilarious.

On another note I have a visitor rant about Girl Scouts, they are awful. Apparently the organization has gone downhill since I was a GS. Every time we have a group of them come to the Lighthouse they’re unorganized, loud and just a mess. On top of all of this we find out they stay at the Holiday Inn, they don’t camp. We never did that when I was in scouts, and we didn’t dress like little floozies either. When I was in scouts we were totally organized, not loud and disrespectful and when we were on outings we usually had to wear some sort of scout I.D. or paraphernalia to identify us. Boy Scouts on the other hand are so much better; give me a group of them over the Girl Scouts any day. Honestly, it’s very frustrating and sad and the organization needs a revamp.

Even though I complain about crazy tourist and such I am enjoying my time here. I know some days I wake up and want to just pack up and go back home, but for the most part it’s more fun than not. I get along with everybody I am in the compound with and we do have some pretty good times. I think it helps that in one way or another we are all pretty nerdy. Most of us are pretty hardcore history nerds but we do have some literary and science nerds too. We all have the nerd factor in common and it actually makes things so much more tolerable. Though if anyone who is not nerdy like us were to hang out with us or just listen in on our conversation they would probably so make fun of us. Even though I have days when I don’t want to go to work and I miss my puppies and my boyfriend and family I must admit I am a much happier person when I have a job. I have felt really good about everything since I have been here and my general well-being has improved so much. So when October comes I am getting a job no matter what it is, even if it has to be part-time at the mall.

July 5

It's only been a week since I have updated, so I'm getting better. I would have updated sooner but I was sick for a few days and didn't feel like doing anything especially updating and telling you all how miserable I was.

Anyway, since last week I have gone to Lansing to visit the BF, been sick with some sort of viral sinus thing, celebrated the 4th of July, and decided that I need a new roommate. So let's start from the beginning...

Going to Lansing was soooo nice, not only did I get to see RJ which was amazing since we had not seen each other for awhile but I got a chance to leave Mackinaw City which was quite wonderful and I ate Chipotle! It was very strange being on the outside though and seeing people who were not tourist and eating ice cream that didn't cost an arm and a leg. It was also nice to go out to eat, but I must admit between all my visitors I had been doing that quite a bit, but it's always nice. Coming back was rough though I had to get back into the routine here and on top of that I was sick, which is never fun. I even took a day off of work, which I hated to do but I felt so much better the next day I think it was a good move and helped me feel better quicker so I wasn't hanging onto something for more than a few days. Then there was the 4th of July, oh people and tourists! It actually wasn't too bad and the work day actually seemed to drag. I think that was due to the heat and the much anticipated cookout at the compound. It was so hot up here, which means it was the same here as it was everywhere else, 90 degrees. For up north, that's hot. People up here don't do well with heat I have discovered. Before being up here I always considered myself from the north, but now I realize I'm from the middle. The cookout went really well and I think everyone had a good time and there was as always lots of good food. We don't actually eat too unhealthy up here surprising enough. It's not all ramen and mac and cheese, though both of those are staples, we eat pretty well for ourselves. Then of course there were the fireworks, which I've decided I don't really care about, if you've seen one, you've seen them all, and unless you're doing them yourself and someone almost blows up a boat.... it's not nearly as entertaining.
On to the new roommate/s scenario... I am getting them. I have to or I will lose my mind. That's all I'm saying about that right now. So I'm staying with some of the other girls that I stayed with when my cabin flooded earlier in the season hopefully for the rest of the season.

Ok and now I'm going to try and post some pics. We will see if they go through so hopefully you all can see a little something. YAH! They went through! A little explanation, the one of me was taken in the butterfly house on the Island after a butterfly landed on me, the next is the view from the north porthole of the lighthouse (Old Mackinac Point), and the last is the light house from the north east corner. Sweet now I feel better having posted SOME pictures. It has also occurred to me that I have taken lots of pictures of "things" and scenery but not too many of people. I am going to try and remedy that as well. That's all for now!
